SimranLock
“Turn every unlock into simran”
SimranLock sits in the gap between reaching for your phone and getting what you reached for. Before a distracting app opens, it presents the daily Hukamnama, a Gurbani passage, or silent meditation.
It was built to protect amrit vela — the early morning prayer window — from the one device guaranteed to be within arm’s reach. The interception point is the whole design: not a reminder you can ignore later, but a pause exactly where attention is being lost.

Unlock interception on iOS
Gating app launches on iOS means working within strict platform boundaries around screen time and app control — the mechanism has to be reliable enough to matter and well-behaved enough to ship.
Daily Hukamnama, delivered live
The Hukamnama from Sri Darbar Sahib in Gurmukhi with translations, refreshed daily, with tap-to-learn pronunciation and meaning on individual words.
Sit With Sangat — shared silence
Timed group meditation over shareable links, so a practice that is usually solitary on a phone becomes something done together.
Gurbani Companion
Conversational AI guidance rooted in scripture — a domain where a wrong or careless answer is not a bug but a harm, so grounding and restraint are the core requirements.
Practice made visible
Streaks with milestones at 7, 30, 108 and 365 days, and a Simran Year grid showing every day of practice at once.
Where this one was genuinely difficult.
AI inside a living religious tradition
A scripture-grounded companion has to stay inside the tradition it serves. This is the strictest grounding problem across the whole portfolio, and the correct default is often to say less.
Reverence without gamification
Streaks can motivate or they can cheapen. Keeping the milestones meaningful — 108 and 365 are not arbitrary — was a design constraint, not a growth lever.
Gurmukhi as a first-class script
Rendering, transliteration and per-word interaction in Gurmukhi, for readers at every level of fluency.
